Find a luxury hotel in Malá Strana and retrace Mozart's footsteps around the cobble-stoned streets of hidden Prague. These hotels exemplify Prague's baroque legacy.

Also known as the Lesser Town or Quarter, Malá Strana lies west of the River Vltava between the riverbank and Castle Hill (Hradcany) in the west of Prague. It is Prague’s most perfectly preserved district with a wealth of aristocratic palaces, gardens (including the lush green Petrín Hill) and a number of luxury hotels converted from historic buildings which preserve Prague’s distinguished architectural legacy.

Hotel prices at the luxury end of the scale in Malá Strana range from 6,000Kc to 20,000Kc (US$372-1240; £180-600).

Hoffmeister Hotel

At the foot of the hairpin bend leading up to Prague’s castle district and just a few steps from Malostranská metro station, the luxury Hoffmeister Hotel enjoys a privileged position. The hotel’s interiors are spacious and contemporary in style, and the decor features original works by the owner’s father, artist Adolf Hoffmeister. The comfortable rooms are individually designed, with traffic noise kept to a minimum by effective double glazing. A wellness centre with ‘aromatherapy stone bath treatment’ occupies a 15th-century grotto, and the hotel has a gourmet restaurant.

Alchymist Hotel

A prominent corner building opposite the American Embassy in Malá Strana has been converted into an exclusive hotel for well-heeled visitors with a taste for over-the-top, Italian interior design and attentive service. The hotel’s decor features 16th- to 19th-century paintings and sculpture, as well as flamboyant furnishings. The small number of suites range from the merely luxurious to the utterly sumptuous. This hotel features a cafe, a restaurant looking out over an internal courtyard, sushi bar, massage rooms and a pool set in an original Gothic cellar.

Aria Hotel

One of Prague’s most immaculate hotels, east from the American Embassy and the Alchymist Hotel, has created a unique identity through clever and original use of a musical theme. The hotel’s comfortable rooms are named after musicians and the floors are labelled ‘classical’, ‘contemporary’, ‘jazz’ and ‘opera’. This hotel has a music salon with a musical director on hand to advise on appropriate entertainment during your stay. Some of the rooms have views over the Vrtbovská zahrada, one of Prague's finest baroque gardens. The international restaurant has a winter garden and a panoramic summer terrace.
